I am a PhD student in the Program in Neural Computation at Carnegie Mellon. In my undergraduate, I researched methods for navigating real-world environments, and, separately, methods for modeling cortical spiking activity. I now continue this work through computational modeling for improving cortical stimulation protocols.

Research Interest Summary

Brain-computer interfaces, electrical stimulation, computation modeling, deep neural networks

Research Interests

Cortical stimulation offers an opportunity for providing realistic and/or useful tactile sensation for neuroprosthetic control, but little is known on how to effectively use this stimulation. I build statistical models of this stimulation and cortical activity to close this gap. My up to date interests can be found at: https://joel99.github.io/
